Supporting children of RAF families
Co-creating a digital solution
Children in RAF families often move homes frequently, making it hard to hold onto friendships. The RAF support them through the Airplay programme, and One YMCA were awarded the contract to deliver it. They wanted to meet young people where they are - to complement face-to-face with digital - but needed to ensure the solution addressed a real need.
Co-creating with young people
One YMCA worked with RAF children to co-create an online space that put young people at the heart. By gathering insights from staff and young people, they shaped a platform that felt safe, engaging, and easy to use - extending the reach of Airplay beyond the physical sessions.
A safe space to feel close
The platform helped children feel close, even miles apart - a place to share experiences and hold onto friendships despite life changes.
For staff, it streamlined communication and programme management - freeing more time for meaningful youth work.
